Why Grease Interceptors Matter

A grease trap or grease interceptor prevents solids from entering the sanitary sewer system. Once in the sewer system, the solids can create clogs which can cause the sewer to overflow, contaminating the environment and creating disease hazards.

Sanitary Lift Station Cleaning

When the drain field must be elevated due to soil conditions, seasonal high water table or site conditions that require it to be located in another location, lift stations are used.

A lift station works by filling up as water leaves the septic tank causing a float to rise. When it reaches a certain point it triggers the pump to turn on and pump the water to the drain field. If the pump or float stops working, water will not be pumped from the tank causing your plumbing to back up.

Lift stations can take quite a beating over time not only from all the pumping, but also from corrosion and abrasion. With the harsh and demanding environment, periodic repair and replacement is only to be expected!

Lift station repairs require not only expert level plumbing skills, but also high levels of electrical-, controls and structural knowledge. Atlantic Wastewater Solutions has the know-how and the experience to get the job done correctly the first time around!

Hydro Jetting And Services

Hydrojetting is the best plumbing method to remove clogs, sand, silt, and scale build up. Hydrojetting has the ability to restore drains to a new-like state, making it a number one choice for resolving drainage issues.

If you're experiencing stubborn clogs, hydrojetting could be the solution you need. Atlantic Wastewater Solutions will carry out quick, reliable hydrojetting services in Maryland and throughout the surrounding areas. We promise fast, efficient, long-term results that will leave you 100% satisfied.

What are the hydrojetting benefits?

Restaurants and hotels are more likely to suffer food waste clogs that can lead to time consuming and costly drain back-ups. Many of these establishments use Hydrojetting as a preventative drain cleaning measure, perhaps scheduling a thorough clean every 2/3 months.

In your home, clogs can build up over a long period of time. Snaking is only effective for certain clogs and will not remove tree roots like hydrojetting can. If your clog has reached a high nuisance level, only hydrojetting will do.

How a Hydrojet Works

A compressor builds up water pressure and forces it through a specially shaped tip. The water pressure moves the tip through the line while spraying the area behind the tip with water under thousands of psi of pressure. The high-pressure water thoroughly cleans the inside of the line.

Septic Tank Cleaning

Septic Tank Cleaning

In simple terms, the septic system consists of two parts – the tank and the leeching system. If you have a very complicated system, you may have dosing chambers, drop boxes, aerators or other attachments that are included.

The septic tank is a large box that is usually made from concrete but it may also be made from metal or plastic. The size will vary based on the size of the house and the regulations of the county. All the waste water from the home enters the tank from an inlet that opens into the middle section of it. This section consists of bacteria that break down the components of the waste water. This waste is then separated into three parts.

The Three Layers

The organic solids settle at the bottom and that layer is called 'sludge'. The middle layer is a relatively clear liquid which is called the effluent and the top layer consists of all the organic particles that are called the 'scum'. By separating all the waste water and allowing it to accumulate in one place, it is easy to pump them out of the system. The leeching system is used to distribute the effluent water into the ground. This is good for the mud and ground in the surrounding areas.

Routine vs Emergency

Whether it's a routine cleaning or an emergency pump out, we have the resources and knowledge to care for you. We promise fast, efficient, long-term results that will leave you 100% satisfied.

Sewer Ejector Pumps

A sewage pump which is ideal for most residential applications will only need to pump up to 20 feet of lift to a gravity sewer. A typical sewage pump installation is when there is a bathroom located in a basement that gets pumped to a gravity line which is connected to the gravity sewer or septic system. Sewage ejector pumps cost less than true grinder pumps.

Grinder Pumps

True grinder pumps will actually shred the sewage and then pump it through the pipe. The main benefit of using a sewage ejector grinder pump is that paper and other debris that get flushed down the toilet are grinded down to help flow through the sewage system more efficiently and not cause clogs in the pipes.

These are powerful pumps, and until recently most sewage grinder pumps have only been available for commercial and residential usage. Grinder pumps are usually installed where the sewer is a long distance from the home, or there is a high vertical lift of more than 20 feet or so.

Which Pump Do You Need?

Sewage Ejector Pump: Up to 20 feet of lift. Ideal for residential basements. More economical option.

Grinder Pump: Long distances or 20+ feet vertical lift. Shreds debris. Commercial and high-demand residential.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there a Grease or Grit Interceptor?
+
A grease trap or grease interceptor prevents solids from entering the sanitary sewer system. Once in the sewer system, the solids can create clogs which can cause the sewer to overflow, contaminating the environment, creating a disease hazard, and costing the city money to clean up the overflow and unclog the line.
Are you permitted/Licensed/Insured?
+
Yes, for all documents you can contact with customer services. We are fully permitted, licensed and insured for all of our services across Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, and Delaware.
How does a hydrojet work?
+
A compressor builds up water pressure and forces it through a specially shaped tip. The water pressure moves the tip through the line while spraying the area behind the tip with water under thousands of psi of pressure. The high-pressure water thoroughly cleans the inside of the line.
Why should we use Atlantic Wastewater Solutions, LLC to hydrojet as opposed to my plumber?
+
Auger cleaning is very different from hydrojet cleaning. An auger is used primarily to punch a hole through the wall of grease. While it is effective at clearing the obstruction, it does not thoroughly clean the inside of the line, so the line is more likely to clog again and will do so more quickly than when a hydrojet is used.
Why should I hydrojet / use preventative maintenance? Isn't pumping enough?
+
Preventative maintenance is a good idea for many situations. While the purpose of pumping your trap is to keep the grease from washing into the city sewer system, the purpose of hydrojetting your lines is to avoid clogs and slow draining lines that could shut down your business at peak hours. You might be able to save some money on your maintenance bill in the short term by neglecting your drain lines, but losing a few operating hours at peak times will typically result in far more lost revenue. Every case is different — call us and we can discuss whether or not preventative maintenance is right for you. In the long run, preventative maintenance will save most customers money.
